The Department is seeking is seeking an experienced account manager at Public Affairs Officer (Grade 3) (PAO3) level for a 12 month contract.

The work is high profile and includes work on reducing violence against women and their children, which remains a high priority for all governments.

Role

There are two key requirements of the role.
1.Strategic communication
Account manager for all communication requirements across the branch, including communication to support the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children.
>Provide advice on communication to support family safety policies and programs, including developing and implementing communication plans, preparing media releases and talking points, responding to media enquiries and issues management.
>Maintain strong and cooperative relationships with client areas and stakeholders.
>Respond to requests from the Minister’s office and client areas.
>Manage junior staff, and provide superior counsel and advice to supervisors and client areas.
2. Violence against women campaign
>Manage the Indigenous and CALD components of the campaign including advertising, media buy and public relations.
>Working in collaboration with appointed agencies, develop and implement public relations to support the campaign (such as social, digital and traditional media engagement, community engagement and development of resources) and customise creative to effectively target Indigenous and CALD audiences, based on research.
>Prepare materials for relevant government approval processes.
>Liaise with state and territory governments on Indigenous and CALD requirements.
This is a multi-award winning $30 million national campaign.

Experience & Skills Required

The client is looking for someone who has a passion for social policy, combined with skills and experience in strategic communication.
They anticipate the ideal candidate will have at least five years’ experience in a public affairs, communication or media team, and have demonstrated experience at performing at the EL1 level under the Australian Public Service Commission’s Integrated Leadership System (apsc.gov.au/working-in-the-aps/ils).
Specific work level standards they are seeking include the ability to:
>gather and investigate information from a variety of sources, explore new ideas and different viewpoints, undertake systematic analysis, and identify any critical gaps.
>take personal responsibility for meeting objectives and progressing work.
>build relationships internally and externally, and ensure people are kept informed of progress and issues.
>approach negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues, anticipates the position of the other party, and strives to achieve an outcome that delivers benefits for both parties.
>confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner, including focusing on key points and using unambiguous language.
>provide direction to others regarding the purpose and importance of the work.
They will possess relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communication, marketing or related fields, or be able to demonstrate recognised skills or relevant experience.
Government campaign experience and prior experience working with Indigenous and CALD audiences would be an advantage.
